Crestview, Florida – Where Country meets the City
Founded in 1916, Crestview is one of the fastest growing communities in Northwest Florida. Known as the “Hub City”, the city sits at the junction of 3 major highways – Hwy 90, Hwy 85, and I-10 – and is a mere 30 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. Originally, Crestview’s name was chosen because of its location on the peak of a long woodland range between the Yellow and Shoal rivers which flow almost parallel on the east and west side of the city. It is also the county seat of Okaloosa County.
With an elevation of 235 feet above sea level, Crestview is one of the highest points in the state. The city is quite seasonal allowing you to enjoy warm summers, fall foliage, cool winters, and spring blossoms. A white Christmas, however, is quite rare! In spite of potentially harsh weather conditions, namely hurricanes, feel completely sheltered 30 miles inland, yet close to our famous white sand beaches.
- Crestview has a very low crime rate and small town feel to it.
- The family friendly community boasts such events as the Triple B – Blackwater, Bluegrass & BBQ Cook-off, Children’s Day Festival, Easter in the Park, Old Spanish Trail Festival, and Downtown Fall Festival among many others.
- With a population of approx 21,000, Crestview is reputed to be a thriving, friendly, and prosperous city with a stable government working to uphold a quality of life second to none.
Due to its convenient location, the majority of the people who move to Crestview work on one of the military bases or in Fort Walton Beach. This small community is about 35 minutes from Fort Walton Beach, 40 minutes from Hurlburt Field, 30 minutes from Eglin Air Force Base, and 15 minutes from Duke Field. If you are being transferred to one of the local bases or moving to Fort Walton Beach you should consider moving to Crestview and commuting, as you will find that it is much easier to find a reasonably priced home here than in other area cities.
